Students taking this course will improve their skills in key areas of the TOEFL so that they feel more prepared for the demands of this exam. In this course, students will practice giving descriptions, stating preferences, giving opinions, improving reading comprehension, taking notes, summarizing main ideas, outlining paragraphs, and writing opinionated texts. They will identify the main ideas in a short lecture and academic conversation, including writing opinionated paragraphs. Students will have an opportunity to study all four sections of the exam: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. They will work with partners and in groups to practice forming responses to questions similar to those they find on the TOEFL exam and get feedback from their classmates and instructor. This course starts with a diagnostic exam and scheduled practice exams to track students’ improvement over the course duration.
