Exciting News for Test Takers!
Starting September 2023, we are pleased to announce that the GRE General Test will be significantly shorter, taking less than 2 hours to complete – nearly half the time of the current test. Our goal is to make the GRE the shortest and most efficient test for graduate, business, and law school admissions.
Key Changes to the GRE Test:
The shorter test will provide test takers and institutions with the same valid and reliable scores they have always received from ETS. These changes represent the first of several planned updates to the GRE General Test, all aimed at enhancing the test-taking experience by maximizing time and reducing examination anxiety and fatigue.
Amit Sevak, CEO of ETS, commented on this latest development, stating, “The changes we’re announcing today highlight our commitment to putting our customers at the forefront of everything we do.” He added, “As we continue to introduce product innovations, we strive to strike a balance between maintaining rigor and validity, while improving the test-taker experience.”
Starting September 2023, we will provide official GRE test prep resources and practice tests specifically designed for the new streamlined format. However, since the shorter test features the same question types (except for the removal of the Analytical Writing “Analyze an Argument” essay), test takers can still utilize the existing Official GRE Prep materials we offer for their test preparation.
Rest assured, the GRE remains the most valid, reliable, and secure assessment of graduate readiness worldwide, now in less time. The score scales will remain unchanged, allowing graduate programs to easily compare performance across individuals who test before and after September 2023.
If you are interested in taking the shorter test, you can now register for test dates beginning September 22, 2023.
